Classroom Presentation

How we present a subject can be just as critical as having a good grasp of the subject and a good lesson plan. Here are some ideas to consider.

Hey teachers -- make it fun

High school science teacher Tyler DeWitt was ecstatic about a lesson plan on bacteria (how cool!) -- and devastated when his students hated it. The problem was the textbook: it was impossible to understand. He delivers a rousing call for science teachers to ditch the jargon and extreme precision, and instead make science sing through stories and demonstrations.

TED's secret to great public speaking

TED Curator Chris Anderson notes that there's no single formula for a great TED or TEDx talk, but there is a secret ingredient that all the best ones have in common – focusing on a single idea. He shares this concept — along with four ways to make it work for you.

While not every class lecture or topic can be as inspiring as a good TED talk, you can adapt these ideas to make it much easier to transfer ideas, and knowledge, from you to your students.
